Already knowing the result of the final, the commander began the announcement by highlighting the balance of the match between Spain and Argentina, decided only in extra time. He then congratulated the Argentines, causing an immediate celebration among the passengers.
The party, however, was short-lived. After a brief pause, the pilot revealed that the world champion had, in fact, been Spain.
As soon as the true result was announced, the screams of joy gave way to absolute silence inside the aircraft.
