Son of Ypiranga player dies aged 2 after accident

The boy had been hospitalized since the accident. Before confirming his death, family and friends had organized a chain of prayers for his recovery.

Ypiranga mourns the death of Gustavo Simões' sonIn a statement, Ypiranga expressed solidarity with the athlete and Benício's relatives. The club stated that it followed the hospitalization period and joined the family in praying for the child's improvement.

"It is with great sadness that we received today the information of the death of Benício, son of our athlete Gustavo Simões. From the moment of the unfortunate accident and his subsequent hospitalization, we prayed for his recovery, but God's plans reserved another outcome, which saddens us deeply, but which also unites us in favor of Gustavo and his family in this moment of pain", he wrote.

"We once again express our condolences to you, Gustavo, and to all your family members. We are with you", concluded Ypiranga.

Family authorizes donation of Benício’s organs

Letícia Vieira, the boy's mother, reported that she and Gustavo decided to donate their son's organs. According to her, the procedure will allow Benício to help other children even after death.

“Our Benício, even in the face of such immense pain, will continue to bring hope to other children,” he wrote.

In another publication, Letícia explained that the donation process could postpone the release of the body and the wake.

"Mom and Dad decided to donate his organs, a gesture of love that could transform many lives. For this reason, this process takes a little longer," he said.

Gustavo Simões had celebrated a moment with his son on the field

In May, Benício entered the field accompanied by his father before a match. Gustavo published images from that day and described the experience as a memory that would remain forever.

"Entering the field with a child is experiencing one of those moments that seem simple on the outside, but huge on the inside. The entire stadium may be looking at the players, the lights and the match that is about to start, but, for a father or a mother, in that moment, the world can be summed up in the small hand holding yours tightly", wrote the athlete.

The player stated that sharing the field with his son represented more than a moment linked to football.

"Before any competition, title or result, there are bonds that are worth much more than any victory. On that path to the pitch, not just a player enters accompanied by a child. Stories, generations and feelings enter that no camera can completely capture", he declared.

At the end of the tribute, Gustavo defined the occasion as an eternal memory.

“For a few minutes, football stops being just a sport and becomes an eternal memory.”

According to information released by the family, Benício's wake will be held this Thursday (6), at the Lagoa da Conceição Mortuary Chapel, in Florianópolis.
