"Paredes was lucky I wasn't on the pitch," says Ibrahimovic

During an appearance on FOX Sports, the former Swedish striker stated that the Argentine player was lucky not to find an opponent on the field willing to fight back. Ibrahimovic also classified Paredes' attitude as unprofessional.

"Paredes can consider himself lucky not to have a player like me on the field. If I had been there, I would have headbutted him and been sent off. It was an unprofessional attitude," he declared, according to the Goal portal.

The former player also expressed discomfort with the Spanish reaction. For him, Gavi and Eric García's teammates passively watched the attacks committed after the match ended.

"I don't know what the Spanish players were doing. They just looked on while another player hit a teammate," he said.

Ibrahimovic spent around a month and a half in the United States participating in the World Cup coverage. When saying goodbye to the studio, however, he made it clear that he does not intend to repeat his experience as a commentator.

"It was a pleasure sharing this studio with you. I thank FOX, the United States and everyone who followed. I hope you had as much fun as I did. This was my first and last time here", he stated.

Paredes speaks out after the final

Leandro Paredes published a message on social media this Tuesday, after the Argentine delegation was received by fans in Buenos Aires. The player regretted the defeat and thanked the support received during the competition, but did not mention the confusion that occurred after the game.

"Thank you, Argentina. I love you today and always. It's difficult to write with this enormous pain for not being able to give our country the joy it deserved," he wrote.

The midfielder also highlighted his pride in the team's performance and praised his teammates for their trajectory in the tournament.

"Thank you to everyone who was part of this team, to this group of players who gave their lives to represent this shirt until the last second. It was a pride to be part of the best Argentine team in history", he added.

The message also raised doubts about the 32-year-old's continued membership in the national team.

FIFA opens disciplinary proceedings

Despite not having commented on the attacks, Paredes could be punished by FIFA. The entity opened a disciplinary process to analyze the incidents that occurred after the final whistle.

According to the regulations, the Boca Juniors player can receive a suspension of at least three matches.

Nahuel Molina and Roberto Fabián Ayala are also at risk of punishment. The two would have participated in other clashes during the confusion after the World Cup decision.
