The final stretch of the 2026 World Cup still prevents Palmeiras from having maximum strength to resume the season. The only player in the squad who remains active in the tournament is striker Flaco López, called up by the Argentina national team for the duel against Switzerland, valid for the quarter-finals.

The other athletes called up by their national teams have already started their rest period and should report back to the Football Academy in the next few days. Gustavo Gómez, Mauricio and Ramón Sosa, who defended Paraguay, return at the beginning of next week. Colombian Jhon Arias, who played in the World Cup for Colombia, returns to training on Wednesday (15), after a few days with his family.

If Argentina advances to the World Cup final, Flaco López will be able to play in the final on July 19, just three days before Palmeiras' debut in the second round of the Brazilian Championship, when they face Coritiba, away from home.

While waiting for the full squad to return, coach Abel Ferreira already has something new. Defender Barboza, signed during the World Cup break, started working with the group and could be signed up at the opening of the transfer window, on July 20th. The defender was punished by the Superior Court of Sports Justice (STJD), but had his suspension reduced and will be released to act.

On the other hand, Palmeiras will have losses in the first rounds after the resumption of the Brasileirão. Allan will serve a two-game suspension, while Paulinho will be out of the match against Coritiba after being punished for the celebration carried out in the clash against Flamengo. The STJD considered the gesture contrary to the competition's disciplinary rules.

In the ball market, the board continues to look for reinforcement for the midfield. The main target is Danilo, from Botafogo. The São Paulo club presented a proposal worth around R$120 million, in addition to the inclusion of defender Naves in the negotiation, and is awaiting a response.

Before signing Barboza, Palmeiras also tried to sign defender Nino, from Zenit, in Russia. Negotiations, however, did not progress and were terminated before the start of the World Cup.

With the return of the Brasileirão scheduled for less than two weeks from now, Palmeiras is working to start the second semester with practically the entire squad available and reinforce the dispute for the season's main titles.
