In a note, Habib's says it filed the request for precautionary relief to negotiate financial liabilities accumulated "during the challenging period of recent years".
"All of the group's stores continue to operate normally across the country, maintaining the same standard of quality and service to our customers", he states.
Founded in 1988, Habib's has stores in 18 states and more than 17 thousand employees, according to its website, and calls itself "the largest genuinely Brazilian fast food and the largest Arabic food brand in the world".
The request for precautionary protection was delivered to the 1st Bankruptcy and Judicial Recovery Court of São Paulo and distributed to judge Jomar Juarez Amorim.
