The mayor of São Paulo, Ricardo Nunes (MDB), presented this Wednesday (5) a criminal report against former councilor Camilo Cristófaro for slander, insult and defamation.

In the complaint, sent to the Citizenship Protection Police Department, Nunes requests the opening of an investigation into what he classified as “a systematic, continuous and painfully premeditated defamatory campaign” against him.

What publications motivated Ricardo Nunes's complaint?

The document mentions publications made by Cristófaro on social media on July 17th and 18th.

In one of them, the former parliamentarian calls the mayor a “dude” and accuses the municipal management of destroying the Traffic Engineering Company (CET). The posts also cite reports about the increase in the number of traffic deaths in the capital of São Paulo.

Estadão tries to contact Camilo Cristófaro’s defense.

Nunes says attacks began after denying positions

When contacted, Ricardo Nunes stated that the former councilor was trying to obtain a position in the municipal administration and started attacking him after having his requests rejected.

"Camilo exceeded all reasonable limits in attacks only because I was unable to respond to his requests to be sub-mayor or have another appointment in the government. When attacks become practically blackmail, it is necessary to look for the appropriate place, which is the Judiciary, so that this type of action stops", he declared.

Crime news calls for removal of publications and blocking of profiles

In addition to holding Cristófaro responsible, the complaint requests that the Court determine the deletion of posts considered criminal.

The document also requests authorization to suspend and block the former councilor's profiles, if the police believe that the measure is necessary during the investigation.

Camilo Cristófaro had his mandate revoked in 2023

In 2023, Cristófaro lost his mandate as councilor after using the expression “black thing”. The following year, he was acquitted by the São Paulo Court of Justice.

Political impeachment has no direct relationship with criminal action and does not determine the outcome of the criminal process.

Former councilor was also denounced for defamation

In March of this year, the Public Ministry of São Paulo indicted Cristófaro for the crime of defamation against the state secretary of Public Security, Osvaldo Nico, and against the former holder of the portfolio Guilherme Derrite (PP).

The former councilor published criticism of the two during a series of attacks on buses in Greater São Paulo.
