Pelosi hit a parked car in Yountville, in the state's wine region, on Friday (3). According to the Napa County Sheriff's Office, the man was driving a maroon convertible, stopped shortly after the crash and drove away.
No one was injured, but the car that was hit had damage considered "major" by authorities. A witness saw the collision, called 911 and helped police locate the driver shortly afterward.
Police officers found Pelosi about 400 meters from the scene of the accident, with damage to the front of the vehicle. He told agents he knew he had hit something, but was not sure when or what caused the damage. Authorities said there was no alcohol in Pelosi's system. The 86-year-old man was not arrested, and because there were no injuries, the sheriff recommended the case be treated as a misdemeanor for leaving the scene of the accident.
The police will also assess whether Pelosi is able to continue driving. The corporation said that this type of procedure is common with older drivers.
RECENT HISTORY
In 2022, Paul Pelosi pleaded guilty to driving under the influence in Napa County. At the time, he was sentenced to five days in jail and three years of probation, but he served two days and received credit for good behavior.
As part of his sentence, he had to take a three-month drink driving course and install a breathalyzer in his car. The equipment requires an air sample to prove sobriety before the engine starts.
He was also ordered to pay about $5,000 in restitution to the victim and nearly $2,000 in fines. That same year, Pelosi was attacked and beaten with a hammer in the couple's San Francisco home.
