In an emotional publication, Selton said goodbye to his father and remembered the friendly relationship between the two. "My best friend went to rest. He found my mother, he must have missed me a lot", wrote the actor, mentioning Selva Aretuza Figueiredo Mello, who died in July 2024, aged 83.
The artist also recalled a childhood dialogue to talk about the pain caused by absence. As Dalton traveled frequently for work, he used to tell his son, when he returned home, that he missed it so much it hurt.
"He traveled a lot to work when I was a child. When he arrived, he said that he missed me so much that it hurt. He asked me if I didn't think the same, I, a Capricorn like him, said: 'no, dad, homesickness doesn't hurt, no'. Because homesickness does hurt", he reported.
Selton said he managed to resume this conversation during his last moments with his father, when Dalton was still lucid in the hospital.
"I was able to tell him in the hospital, very lucidly, before leaving, that it was a lie, that longing really hurts. It was my way of protecting myself perhaps. He knew, our farewell was beautiful and light. Lightness, in fact, was his specialty", he stated.
According to the actor, Dalton smoked since he was 14 years old and faced the consequences of smoking. Even though he was hospitalized, he would have said that he would not change the choices he made throughout his life.
"He was happy like that until the end, at 84 years old. He would do everything the same, he told me, laughing in the hospital. Laughing, smiling, that's so, so much like him", wrote Selton.
In the tribute, the artist also stated that he and Danton inherited characteristics such as charisma, sensitivity and ability to win people over from their father and mother. Dalton was defined by his son as a sweet, funny, humble man and loved by everyone who knew him.
"Your children are going on a trip to say goodbye to an absolutely passionate man. Thank you, father, for guiding us, for being bold in your life choices, for being my best friend", he declared.
Dalton worked as a banker and raised his family in Passos, in the interior of Minas Gerais. In the 1980s, he moved with his wife and children to São Paulo, where Selton and Danton began to gain their first opportunities in their artistic career.
