Luís Roberto returns to Globo after cancer diagnosis: 'I'm on the way to a cure'

The narrator told presenter Luciano Huck that the messages of solidarity were important to face the treatment period. "I received an avalanche of affection. It gave me the mental health to face this challenge. Gratitude is a word that, sometimes, we trivialize. But, at this moment in my life, on such a special day, with the team playing in a World Cup qualifier, I need to say that gratitude moves me."

Luís Roberto said he underwent 43 treatment sessions, 36 of which were radiotherapy and seven were chemotherapy in two months. "It's a heavy treatment," he said.

The narrator was also moved when he watched a report about his career, produced by journalist Pedro Bassan, and a statement recorded by his wife Jacy Santos. “We emerged victorious from this battle,” she said.

Then, Luís Roberto replied: "I'm on the way to a cure", highlighting the importance of the medical care received in Brazil.

At the beginning of April, the narrator was diagnosed with neoplasia in the cervical region, that is, a tumor, during routine examinations, which caused him to withdraw from Globo's football broadcasts, including coverage of the World Cup.

"You have to know that it's not possible, you have to prioritize your health, staying alive", he explained without regretting his departure. Globo chose Everaldo Marques as his replacement.
