Laura Pausini talks about a feat with Sandy and criticizes current artists

The partnership was born from a tribute to the artist's Italian roots. Laura had already recorded "Quanno Chiove", by Pino Daniele, for her most recent album, "Io Canto 2", dedicated to reinterpretations of notable songs by Italian artists and descendants. According to her, the album arose from the desire to revisit songs that helped shape her trajectory.

It was precisely during the recording process that Laura learned about the existence of the Portuguese version of the song. "I discovered it a few days before recording the Italian version, because my best friend is from São Paulo and she always listens to my demos", he tells F5. "When I sent her the recording, she said: 'do you know that this song exists in Portuguese?'. And she also told me that the song had a major success in Brazil."

The information sparked the desire to record the track in Portuguese and, upon listening to the recording, the artist said that she immediately imagined Sandy's voice sharing the song with her. It was then that he got in touch with the Brazilian singer.

"She was very happy and told me that this is a very important song for her, that it reminds her of her childhood and adolescence. I believe that things that are born in this way have a true value, and you cannot avoid doing them. I believe that you can hear in our voices together that there is a connection", he assesses.

Today, with more than three decades of career, Laura maintains a loving relationship with the Brazilian public. The singer built an international career, sang in the World Cup final and became one of the most popular Italian artists outside her country. Still, he admits that he already thought he would have to say goodbye to the stage.

"I believe that in people's lives we all reach a moment when we ask ourselves: 'Am I doing the right thing? Am I doing the fairest thing for myself?'. During the Covid period, this thought also reached my work", he admits. "And I was afraid I wouldn't be able to work. I thought: 'I have to give up, but I don't want to'. I'll always sing, I love to sing."

In good humor, Laura commented that music is part of who she is – to the despair, at times, of her 13-year-old daughter Paola. During the last family vacation, the teenager was embarrassed because her mother started singing everywhere.

"I was born singing and I'm going to die singing. It's not even certain that I'm going to die, because since I was a little girl I've been waiting for someone to create a pill for eternal life."

Despite having different musical tastes from her mother, Paola accompanies Laura on tour and knows her entire repertoire. Recently, she went through a phase of listening to Michael Jackson, something that made the singer especially happy.

"She finally plays Michael Jackson's music in the car, at home. It's a wonderful thing. I like singers who sing, you know? Not all singers today sing", he says.

Before she could complete her reasoning, the artist was interrupted by her advisor, who warned that the interview was running out of time. Laura burst out laughing: "She's afraid I'll name names. You guys in Brazil don't know them, so I won't say them."

The singer ended the conversation by projecting her next meeting with the Brazilian public. On February 27, she will perform her first stadium show in Brazil, at the Mercado Livre Arena Pacaembu, in São Paulo, with the "Io Canto World Tour".

Excited, she said that she has already started putting together her repertoire and wants to give a performance to repay the fans' affection. "It's going to be a show lasting more than 2 hours. I'm going to sing everything with all my strength and my heart", he promises.
