Klopp will be Germany's new coach after World Cup elimination, says journalist

After Paraguay's early elimination in the second phase of the 2026 World Cup, Germany chose coach Julian Nagelsmann's replacement. According to Italian journalist Fabrizio Romano, who specializes in the football transfer market, Jürgen Klopp has agreed to take over the German national team.

"Klopp has agreed to take over; details of the long-term contract, project and departure from Grupo RB are still under discussion, but he will be the new coach," Romano wrote on social media.

According to the journalist, the German Football Federation (DFB in its German acronym) and Klopp have reached an agreement and are only discussing details at this time for the announcement to be made. Currently, the former Borussia Dortmund and Liverpool coach has been global football director for the Red Bull group since 2025.

According to Romano, there is a clause in Klopp's contract with Red Bull that allows him to be released only for the German national team, as is this case. The coach does not manage any club after leaving Liverpool at the end of the 2023-24 season, where he won numerous titles, such as the Premier League, the Champions League and the Club World Cup.

Before closing the agreement with the DFB, Klopp had already expressed interest in taking on the role, as reported by the British newspaper The Telegraph. "I have a full tank and I'm ready. We need to talk a lot, because the team's problems haven't started now, but I'm prepared for this challenge," Klopp told German channel Magenta TV after Germany's elimination against Paraguay.

Also according to Romano, the Red Bull group even considered Austrian Oliver Glasner as a replacement, but he should take over at Nottingham Forest after the departure of Portuguese Vítor Pereira, formerly of Corinthians and Flamengo.
