Coritiba and Chapecoense face off this Saturday, at 8:30 pm, at the Couto Pereira Stadium, for the 22nd round of the Brazilian Championship. At different times, but under pressure from recent results, the rivals enter...
Coritiba arrives at the duel after four consecutive stumbles, a sequence that made them fall in the standings. Coxa starts the round in 11th place, with 27 points, four behind the classification zone for the Copa Libertadores.
Despite facing the last placed team, the team from Paraná is trying to overcome a problem that has been bothering them throughout the competition: their performance at home. They have the third worst record as home team in Serie A and also boast the worst attack among the home team, with just 11 goals scored.
For the match, coach Fernando Seabra must maintain the base of the team that faced Cruzeiro. The main doubt is in the midfield. Midfielder Thiago Santos, replaced in the last round after feeling pain, will be re-evaluated and may start playing. If preserved, young Vitor Tissi appears as the main option for the vacancy.
During the transfer window, the club also confirmed the departure of midfielders Willian Oliveira and Wallisson, reducing the alternatives for the sector.
"We know the responsibility we have in front of our fans. We need to win again and regain the team's confidence. We respect Chapecoense, but playing at Couto Pereira we have to take the lead and look for the three points from the first to the last minute", stated Seabra.
On the other hand, Chapecoense is in an even more delicate situation. With just 10 points, they are in last place in Series A and are already starting to compete in Series B next season.
The phase is worrying. Verdão do Oeste has just one victory in the entire competition and has 19 consecutive matches without winning in the Brasileirão. The only triumph came six months ago, on January 28, when they beat Santos 4-2. To increase the pressure, the team was also eliminated from the Copa do Brasil by Cruzeiro.
Coach Rafael Lacerda continues to have problems assembling the team. Bolasie remains out after the pancreas injury - despite having already been discharged from hospital - and remains absent. Another doubt is right-back Bruno Tubarão, who left the clash against Cruzeiro after feeling a muscle problem in his thigh. If he is unable to play, Everton must assume the position.
Chapecoense also has the worst away campaign in Serie A, a factor that increases the pressure to achieve a positive result away from home.
"Our situation demands an immediate response. We know the difficulties, but the group continues working to change this scenario. We need to compete at a high level, minimize mistakes and take advantage of opportunities to score again", said Lacerda.
