Flamengo activates regulatory body and suggests vetoing the sale of Vasco’s SAF
SÃO PAULO, SP (UOL/FOLHAPRESS) - The president of Flamengo, Luiz Eduardo Baptista, remains firm in his supervision in relation to the process of selling Vasco's SAF to businessman Marcos Lamacchia, son of José Lamacchia...
Flamengo joined the National Football Regulation and Sustainability Agency (ANRESF) which, in general, was created to implement "financial fair play" in Brazilian football. The initial information was given by "ge" and confirmed by the report.
Vasco's rival cites, in the agency, section 9 of the financial sustainability regulation, which prohibits the same investor or economic group from controlling two or more clubs competing in the same competition.
Another article cited by Flamengo is nº 62 of the General Sports Law, which, among other points, states that the veto is applied "to spouses and relatives up to the second degree of natural persons".
The basis for Flamengo's claim is a possible conflict of interests between Leila Pereira, president of Palmeiras, and her stepson Marcos Lamacchia, who wants to buy SAF from Vasco.
Last week, Bap had already shown himself against the process taking place at his rival. At the time, he made the issue clear with Leila Pereira.
"This is illegal. By FIFA, by the CBF statute, by the Brazilian Civil Code. It's not Bap who is against it. 'Ah, but I'm João's stepmother, João has no blood relationship with me'. There is specification about this in the Brazilian Civil Code, it's clear in FIFA and the CBF. The first solution, the agent (Leila), who is an investor and sponsor of Palmeiras, asks to leave Palmeiras now. The next minute, everything that is being discussed is legal. The other option is, wait for October next year and do it, there's no problem. The problem is the timing. Under Brazilian law, you can't be married to two women at the same time. It's illegal.
