The pampa also had the best number in the historical series, with 305 km² of native vegetation lost and a drop of 42% compared to 2024.
In the caatinga, the index reached 2,289 km² in 2025, representing a 34% drop compared to the previous period, which was 524 km².
The data comes from the Prodes system (Satellite Deforestation Monitoring), from Inpe (National Institute for Space Research), which produces the country's official deforestation statistics, and was released this Friday (7).
"Brazil has, at this moment, achieved a fantastic result: the lowest deforestation rate in the entire country in ten years, in all biomes", stated the Minister of the Environment, João Paulo Capobianco, at an event at Inpe's headquarters, in São José dos Campos (SP), referring to Prodes' 2025 figures.
Considering all biomes in the country, last year there were 15.6 thousand km² of deforestation, a 20% reduction compared to 2024.
