Chris Brown pleads guilty in bottle assault case

The 37-year-old artist changed his previous version and formalized the change in his defense during a hearing at Southwark Crown Court in London, the Los Angeles Times reported, based on information from the Associated Press.

Brown was arrested in May 2025 on suspicion of causing grievous bodily harm. At the hearing to present the charges, held a month later, the singer had pleaded not guilty to charges of attempting to cause serious bodily harm illegally, maliciously and intentionally.

The singer was also facing charges of assault and possession of an offensive weapon, in this case, a bottle.

In exchange for the guilty plea, prosecutors dropped some charges, including assault, attempting to cause grievous bodily harm and possession of an offensive weapon. Omololu Akinlolu, a friend of Chris Brown, who was also accused last year of causing grievous bodily harm for his involvement in the same incident, also pleaded guilty.

Details of the accusation against Chris Brown

According to prosecutors, the singer attacked music producer Amadou "Abe" Diaw with a bottle of tequila at the Tape London bar in February 2023. The producer filed a lawsuit against Brown for assault and intentionally causing emotional distress, alleging that the artist "brutally assaulted" him, striking his head while he was unconscious on the floor of the bar after the bottle attack.

The judge set the sentencing hearing for October 26, 2026 and authorized Chris Brown to leave the UK on bail, but he must return to the country on that date.

Chris Brown is currently touring North America alongside Usher. The two artists have performances scheduled for September 25th and 26th at SoFi Stadium in Inglewood.
