Candidate for federal deputy dies shot in attempted robbery

During the action, a military police officer reacted and fired seven shots at the suspects. The criminals retaliated, starting an exchange of gunfire. One of them fled on a motorcycle, while the other left the scene running.

Wallace was hit and rescued by his friend. He was admitted to the Municipal Hospital of São João de Meriti at around 3:50 pm, but succumbed to his injuries.

The businessman had announced his candidacy for federal deputy last week. In a post on social media, he stated that political renewal could strengthen Congress and expand supervision over public power.

"I know that no one changes Brazil alone. But I believe that, with a major renewal in the National Congress and with parliamentarians committed to working for the people, it will be possible to strengthen the Legislative Power, monitor public power and defend the interests of the population", he wrote.

The Republicans of Rio de Janeiro released a note of condolence and offered solidarity to the candidate's family and friends.

“Republicans Rio de Janeiro expresses deep regret at the death of Wallace Sacramento, candidate for federal deputy for the party”, informed the party.

The party also said it trusted the work of the authorities to clarify the case and wished strength to Wallace's relatives and those close to him.

The investigation must determine the dynamics of the attempted robbery, the origin of the shots and the circumstances in which the candidate was hit.
