Born in Belo Horizonte, Minas Gerais, Dener worked in a restaurant in the English capital. He had last been seen in the early hours of July 4, the date he disappeared. The police even shared a photograph of the Brazilian on social media to ask for information that would help locate him.
According to Ana Luiza, the body was already in a state of decomposition when it was found. The family believes that the death occurred on the day of the disappearance. According to the police, so far there are no elements that indicate the commission of a crime.
With the location of the body, relatives are trying to facilitate its transfer to Brazil. Without the financial means to cover the costs of the procedure, the sister created a virtual crowdfunding and asked for help so that the chef could be buried close to his family.
“In addition to the immeasurable pain of loss, we face a challenge that is beyond our financial means: bringing his body back to Brazil so that we can say goodbye with dignity and allow him to rest next to those who always loved him”, wrote Ana Luiza on the campaign page.
In another tribute, she spoke about the bond she had with her twin brother. "It's as if a part of my story has been ripped away. I'll miss your voice, your way, our conversations and knowing that, somewhere in the world, I had my other half."
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs reported that it is monitoring the case through the Consulate General of Brazil in London. According to Itamaraty, the Brazilian representation maintains contact with the family and the British authorities.
The ministry explained that embassies and consulates can guide relatives, assist in communication with local bodies and issue documents, such as a consular death certificate, after completing the procedures required in the country where the death occurred.
