SÃO PAULO, SP (FOLHAPRESS) - Anvisa (National Health Surveillance Agency) published this Monday (13) the registration of Fluprevli, a trivalent influenza vaccine (fragmented and inactivated) indicated for active immunization from 6 months of age against strains of influenza viruses A and B present in the formulation.
Anvisa registers new influenza vaccine for use from 6 months onwards
SÃO PAULO, SP (FOLHAPRESS) - Anvisa (National Health Surveillance Agency) published this Monday (13) the registration of Fluprevli, a trivalent influenza vaccine (fragmented and inactivated) indicated for active...
According to Anvisa, clinical studies used to support the approval demonstrated high rates of seroprotection (considered adequate levels of antibodies in the blood) and seroconversion, a process in which the body starts to produce detectable antibodies after vaccination.
The studies also showed efficacy of up to 73% in preventing influenza in adults and up to 65% in children.
The vaccine is classified as trivalent, that is, it protects against three strains of the influenza virus included in its composition: two type A and one type B, according to the approved formulation.
From January to May this year, Brazil recorded 505 deaths from Srag (severe acute respiratory syndrome) associated with influenza A and B viruses. In the same period in 2025, the country recorded 776 deaths from Srag associated with influenza. Experts warn, however, that the number of deaths related to the virus could be even higher.
This is because 1,344 deaths from Srag recorded this year did not have the causative agent identified - in addition to influenza, severe acute respiratory syndrome can also be caused by viruses such as covid-19, rhinovirus and respiratory syncytial virus (RSV).
The numbers also indicate an increase in total cases compared to last year. In 2026, Brazil has so far recorded 7,749 cases of SARS due to influenza, 256 due to the H1N1 virus, 1,903 due to H3N2, 4,892 due to non-subtyped Influenza A and 698 due to Influenza B.
In 2025, from January to May, 6,250 cases had been recorded.
The progressive reduction in adherence to vaccination against Influenza in recent years has drawn the attention of experts.
The lack of vaccination favors viral circulation, in addition to making the population more susceptible and, consequently, leading to a greater number of infected people.
Eurofarma announces partnership to bring new chikungunya vaccine to Brazil
It is a single-dose vaccine, produced using VLP technology ("virus like particles", or particles similar to the virus). The method reproduces the external structure of the pathogen without containing its genetic material, which prevents replication and infection.
