“There were dramatic scenes, seeing the child crying, who was still in a situation of feeling a lot of pain”, said Major Vinícius de Araújo Camargo to TV Anhanguera.
Baby was transferred to hospital in Goiânia
As some of the fractures required specialized care, the newborn was transferred on the same day to the Governador Otávio Lage de Siqueira State Emergency Hospital, Hugol, in Goiânia.
The institution did not officially disclose the patient's health status.
According to the paternal aunt, the baby is monitored by orthopedists and nutritionists. She also underwent examinations of her head and chest to check for perforations or other complications.
"She underwent a procedure on Sunday, plastering her arms. It was the only procedure she could do at the moment, because the rest will heal on its own. There is no forecast for discharge. Now, she will be under observation", he said.
Aunt claims that family was considering asking for custody
The paternal aunt reported that she and the child's grandmother were already thinking about asking to take care of the baby because they considered that the parents did not have adequate conditions to raise her.
"My mother and I were already thinking about asking for her. From what we saw, they weren't in much condition to raise her. They are both ex-convicts and lived in an unhealthy, very precarious house. This makes me feel very bad, because I don't know what happened to her", he declared.
Parents presented different versions
Police chief Fabiano Jacomelis reported that the couple was caught in the act due to the severity of the injuries and the contradictions presented during the statements.
Initially, the parents told hospital professionals that the baby had been left in the care of other children. After the police arrived, they stated that a third person was responsible for the newborn.
The father and mother's versions also did not coincide.
According to the delegate, the two only provided the first name of the person who would have taken care of the child. No address or other information that would allow her to be located was presented.
Police investigate origin of injuries
The Civil Police are carrying out efforts to identify the person mentioned by the couple and clarify under what circumstances the baby suffered the fractures.
The names of those investigated were not disclosed. Until the information was published, the defenses had not commented on the case.
