Apple this week presented financial results for the third quarter of the company's fiscal year. The occasion served not only to reveal positive aspects and make (worrying) warnings for the future, but also to present...
Tim Cook reserved part of the results presentation to talk about John Ternus, the company's former vice president of Hardware and chosen to take over as CEO of Apple. Cook took the opportunity to praise Ternus and convey a message of confidence.
"The transition is going smoothly and I'm excited to see John [Ternus] take on his new role and lead Apple into its next era," said Tim Cook, who, after 15 years at Apple, will become chairman of the company's board of directors.
"[John Ternus] is truly one of a kind and there is no better person to take the lead at Apple. As I said, I couldn't be more confident in his leadership, our executive team and the extraordinary people at Apple who are determined to improve the lives of all users around the world. We have a bright future ahead of us and I've never been more optimistic. So thank you all," Cook said, according to Mashable.
Despite Cook's optimism, the presentation of the results also served to Apple executives to leave a worrying warning about the future.
Despite the US$54 billion generated by the iPhone — an increase of 22% compared to the same period last year — and the US$10 billion from the Mac division, driven by the MacBook Neo, Apple will soon have to deal with problems related to the supply of components.
According to the website 9to5Mac, the technology giant's chief financial officer, Kevan Parekh, stated that "the impact of supply restrictions will increase significantly" starting in September and throughout the following months.
Cook himself admitted that the possibility of increasing the prices of the brand's products, including the iPhone, has not been ruled out due to the increase in the cost of components, such as RAM.
"When it comes to pricing, we've been raising prices reluctantly," Cook said, noting that the company is "evaluating all options" to avoid having to pass on costs to consumers.
