Walt Disney and TikTok announced this Wednesday (5) an agreement that will allow the platform's content creators to use characters and scenes from Disney films and series in short videos. It is the first partnership of its kind between the popular social network and a traditional media company. Under the agreement, a selection of videos will be shown on both TikTok and the Disney+ streaming service, the companies said in a statement. On Disney+, videos will be available in a tab called Verts, created to attract younger audiences, accustomed to consuming vertical videos on their cell phones. It will be the first time that TikTok videos will be shown on another platform. TikTok will give creators access to material from hundreds of Disney films and series, including content from brands such as Pixar, Marvel, Star Wars and FX, according to the companies. A pilot program will be launched in the United States in the coming months, with plans to expand to other markets. The values ??of the agreement were not disclosed. Disney+ and other streaming services have increasingly adopted the vertical video format, which is growing rapidly in the United States. Peacock, from Comcast, and Paramount+ have already started offering series in vertical format, while Netflix offers Clips, short TikTok-style videos. In addition to expanding Disney+'s content offering, the partnership with TikTok could help the company attract more viewers to the streaming service. According to data from TikTok, the platform's users shared, on average, 6.5 million posts per day related to films and TV shows last year. Almost half of survey participants said they watched a movie or series after discovering related content on TikTok. “The best storytellers are, first and foremost, fans,” said Asad Ayaz, Disney’s chief marketing and brand officer. "This collaboration creates a new bridge between the stories we tell and the creativity they inspire."
