According to inspectors, a wooden shed was used as a home. The space was also used to store saddles, ropes, harnesses, feed bags and other work tools. There were leaks through the ceiling and floor, exposed electrical wiring and degraded sanitary facilities. Furthermore, dogs and sheep had access to the rooms where the workers slept. During the inspection, food was found in poor condition for consumption, including decaying potatoes and a piece of meat stored in a freezer with malfunctions. Measures adopted The action was carried out by Labor Tax Auditors, with the participation of the Public Ministry of Labor (MPT) and the Federal Police (PF). According to the bodies responsible for the operation, one of the workers had been on the farm since October last year and the other since January this year. None of them had formal registration, received paid weekly rest, or had received training and protective equipment for work. The tools used were purchased by the workers themselves. After the rescue, the two men were removed from the scene and taken to their homes. The Federal Police escorted the workers until they were safe. The Ministry of Labor and Employment informed that it will issue forms to receive unemployment insurance. In the case of the Uruguayan worker, a Brazilian CPF was also provided to access the benefit. The Tax Auditors also ordered the payment of severance pay equivalent to an unfair dismissal, in an amount exceeding R$ 23 thousand, and closed the accommodation as it presented a serious and imminent risk to the health and safety of anyone using the space. According to the Public Ministry of Labor, based on the inspection report, measures will be adopted to hold employers accountable, including the collection of compensation from workers and compensation for collective moral damage.
