The accident happened early this Thursday morning (9), near the Alto do Farol neighborhood, in the Mangue Seco region, in the municipality of Raposa, in the Metropolitan Region of São Luís. The victim, whose name was not released, was at a bus stop when she was hit. Then the car began to descend out of control. Upon realizing the situation, the man ran to try to hold him back, but was unable to reach him. According to witnesses, the driver left the car running without the handbrake properly applied. The vehicle went down the road, hit the pedestrian and threw her about 10 meters away. Then, the car collided with a tree. The victim had both legs crushed. She was rescued by residents and a team from the Mobile Emergency Care Service (Samu), but she did not survive her injuries and died on the way to the hospital. After the accident, the vehicle owner removed the child from the car and left the scene before authorities arrived. According to witnesses, he lives in the region.
