Vassouras Museum receives a copy of a book on quilombola history and cuisine. Disclosure/Instituto Dagaz The Vassouras Museum (RJ) received the donation of a copy of the book "A Cozinha dos Quilombos: Flavors, Territories and Memories". The delivery of the work, which is currently sold out on the publishing market, took place on Wednesday (16) during an event in the city. According to the Dagaz Institute, responsible for research and publication, the copy became part of the local collection with the aim of expanding public access to the history and knowledge of the state's traditional communities. According to the organization, the book was produced in 2014 after months of fieldwork in 29 remaining quilombo communities in Rio de Janeiro. The work, written by historian Marileia Almeida, documents ways of life, cultivation techniques, agroecological practices and ancestral cultural traditions. The project, which has already been certified as a Point of Memory of Brazil by the Ministry of Culture and won the Afro Fluminense Award, also makes the complete content of the book available free of charge on the internet, with versions in Portuguese and English.
