Residents report fear after tornado affects 150 families in a municipality in RS The tornado that hit the rural area of ??Pedro Osório, in the south of Rio Grande do Sul, this Thursday (6), left a trail of destruction on properties. Residents reported being scared by the strength of the winds. Freelancer Paulo Andrade recorded the moment the tornado formed. "I saw that it was a roof that was flying from those warehouses. And it was spinning on the way back. It caught some kind of funnel", he reported. "Until now I haven't been able to sleep. It's a very horrible thing." ? We've been through other storms, but it didn't even come close to this." On a farm in the region, a machinery shed had its roof practically completely ripped off. The force of the wind threw one of the metal tiles into the top of a eucalyptus tree. A vegetable greenhouse was also destroyed, and employees spent the day working to remove vegetation that fell across the property. Rural producer Leonardo Ferreira, aged 42, had his house destroyed. Among the rubble, what remained was the kettle he used daily. The resident counts on the help of friends and neighbors to clean the place. "It's heartbreaking, right? Seeing everything we build with sacrifice, working there, arriving and seeing everything on the ground, it's difficult. I'm 42 years old, I've never seen it and I ask God and pray to never see it again, never go through that again", he lamented. Resident lost the house she had lived in for 69 years. Leonardo's mother, retired Marli Ferreira, lives just a few meters from her son and had the house, where she had lived for 69 years, hit. "It destroyed everything. There are trees fallen on top of the house, the house was roofed, the wall fell. We think it won't happen to us, that we see on television, but suddenly, when we see it, nothing but destruction happens," he said. Emergency situation The mayor of the municipality, Ricardo Duarte Alves (MDB), stated that the city hall must declare an emergency situation to seek state and federal assistance. "Fortunately, no victims, no one injured, but many homes in the rural area, many properties damaged. Several houses, sheds, dead animals, a very sad scenario. We have already seen 10 homes in the rural area completely destroyed," he said. In the urban area, roofing was recorded, as well as falling trees, poles and wires.
