What will the weather be like in the next few weeks? Timelapse of the sunset seen from Graciosa beach in 2023, in Palmas Angel Lima Is it common to rain in July? The rains recorded in the central-south region of Tocantins are not common. According to the meteorologist, rain in July generally falls in the northern and Bico do Papagaio regions. In Araguaína, in 2021, it rained 36.9 millimeters during this period. Very different from Taguatinga, to the south of the state, which, before this year, had only recorded rain in July in 2002, with 2.6 millimeters. "These rains have a favorable condition at medium and high levels, that is, three kilometers above the surface there is a jet stream bringing this humidity from the Amazon region. Take Tocantins, a little bit from Maranhão and Pará. And then it brings these instabilities, which is not common, thus causing these rains", explained Elizabete. The location of the Bico do Papagaio region favors more rain being recorded in July, compared to the center-south of Tocantins. The situation is due to the atmospheric circulation that occurs in the north of the state. "Due to the influence of low pressure, which predominates there in that equatorial part, bringing rain to that region. Then it ends up reaching this part further north of Tocantins, because the circulations, both at high levels and at medium levels, favor this moisture channel for this region", he explained. The southern region of Tocantins, on the other hand, is influenced by the circulation of winds from the central region. "When there is an intensified cold front, it ends up carrying moisture, through these jet streams." Does El Niño influence this climate change in TO? According to the meteorologist, it is relative to associate climate changes only with El Niño. In 2002, the phenomenon appeared moderately and favored some rain in this region, but in 2023 it did not have the same condition. "There is a favorable jet condition at medium levels, just as it can favor it, it may not have this condition either. So, it is difficult to say that it is due to El Niño. In the southern region of the country, this condition we see that there are low level jets influencing the El Niño condition, but for the Tocantins region, there is uncertainty, there is no way for us to say that it is", he explained. What will the weather be like in the next few weeks? For next week, the forecast is that dry weather will return, especially in the week of July 22nd to 28th, according to the Inmet meteorologist. Bico do Papagaio - the region continues with rainy conditions for this Thursday (16) and until Saturday the sky is expected to be cloudy. "From next week onwards, it will become sunnier and the presence of clouds will be variable, that is, there will be more sun than clouds." Central-south of Tocantins - starting this Friday (17th), Palmas should become sunnier. "There will be lower humidity again and temperatures will gradually rise, so this mass of dry air will persist for the next week." Weather forecast In Palmas, the maximum temperature will be 34 degrees over the weekend, with lots of clouds and moderate gusts of wind. The minimum should vary between 21 and 22 degrees.
