Truck drivers stage a strike to pressure the Senate on Freight MP Self-employed truck drivers from Baixada Santista, on the coast of São Paulo, hold a strike this Monday (13) to pressure the Senate to put Provisional Measure (MP) 1343 to a vote. Known as the Freight MP, the proposal changes the rules of the minimum road surface and creates new benefits. The text was approved by the Chamber of Deputies last month. If it is not voted on by senators by July 16th, the measure will become invalid. The protest in Baixada Santista follows a national movement in the category. ? According to the Santos Port Authority (APS), a trailer was placed across the avenue, blocking vehicle access early in the morning. Truck drivers carry out strike at the Port of Santos Sindicam-Santos The demonstration had been announced by the Union of Self-Employed Road Workers of Goods of Baixada Santista and Vale do Ribeira (Sindicam-Santos) on social media on Friday (10). On that occasion, President Luciano Santos de Carvalho asked truck drivers to stop picking up loads on Sunday (12). “This MP is extremely important for all truck drivers”, highlighted Carvalho. In a note, APS reported that port operations are occurring normally and port routes are fully open. "Early in the morning there was a partial blockade of access to Porto, for less than an hour, in which protesters allowed passage when requested." According to the Santos Traffic Engineering Company (CET), agents and military police are at the scene, where there is slow traffic. "The Municipality was notified by the category's union about the carrying out of a peaceful mobilization, with a request for support to maintain public order. Because of this, in addition to the structure on site, there is monitoring of possible impacts on traffic", he stated. The president of the Brazilian Association of Motor Vehicle Drivers (Abrava), Wallace Landim, also published on social media a call for the category to be suspended throughout the country as a form of pressure on the president of the Senate, Davi Alcolumbre (União-AP).
