Traders denounce precarious conditions of bathrooms in Campos Edson Araujo/g1 Traders who work in the food sector under the Leonel Brizola Bridge, in Campos dos Goytacazes, in the North of Rio de Janeiro, denounce the precarious conditions of public bathrooms used by permit holders and customers. According to them, hygiene and conservation problems have been going on for around two years and have kept consumers away. g1 was on site this Monday (27), after receiving complaints, and found one of the bathrooms closed. In the other, there was feces spread on the floor, clothes and other objects abandoned, a strong odor of urine, and the toilet lid and flush system were missing. The vase was full of waste and there was a mouse inside it. According to permit holders, the situation has caused damage to kiosks in the food area, as many customers stop staying there due to the lack of a bathroom in suitable conditions for use. ? A permit holder for five years, Joílma Cardoso Jorge Rangel states that the problem has gotten worse. "It's an ugly situation here. It's not just me, it's the same on the other side. Things here only get worse, nothing gets better," he said. She states that the traders approached the public authorities in search of a solution, but were informed that the maintenance of the bathrooms is the responsibility of the permit holders. "They said we have to solve it because we are the ones who use it. The kiosks renovated the bathrooms, but then they were vandalized," he said. According to Joílma, traders also avoid confronting people who use the space irregularly for fear of reprisals. "If we say anything, we are threatened. Our hands are tied," he said. The permit holder also complains about the lack of supervision. "Here people do what they want. No one shows up, no supervision, no posture, not even Codemca," he said.
