The driver of the car, David Marques Thaumaturgo, aged 42, died at the scene of the collision. According to the Amazonas Military Police (PMAM), David was transporting an adult and three children when he lost control of the steering wheel, crossed the median and collided head-on with a van from the company Alicetur, which was traveling in the opposite direction. Upon impact, the car was destroyed and caught fire. The three children were rescued and taken to medical care. The adult passenger and the other injured people also received treatment and were taken to health units in the capital. ? One of them is hospitalized in serious condition in an Intensive Care Unit (ICU). The department did not say whether the patients were occupants of the car or van involved in the accident.

The van was carrying 13 people, including the driver and 12 passengers. The occupants were evaluated by rescue teams and received medical attention. In a statement, Alicetur informed that it regrets the accident and expressed solidarity with the family of the fatal victim, the passengers of the van and others involved. According to the company, the van was hit by a vehicle that had invaded the opposite lane of traffic. The company also informed that it is monitoring the investigation of the circumstances of the accident with the authorities and that it will collaborate with the necessary measures. According to Alicetur, the driver of the van is doing well and the other occupants received medical care at the scene. The company stated that it continues to provide support to passengers and their families. Teams from the Amazonas Military Fire Department (CBMAM), the Mobile Emergency Care Service (Samu), the Amazonas Civil Police (PC-AM), Criminal Forensics, the Legal Medical Institute (IML), the Municipal Institute of Urban Mobility (IMMU) and the State Department of Traffic of Amazonas (Detran-AM) responded to the incident. Traffic was partially closed while the victims were being treated, the investigation was carried out and the vehicles involved were removed. The case was registered with the Specialized Homicide and Kidnapping Police Station (DEHS), which must investigate the circumstances of the accident.
