Zema's assets increase by R$49 million in four years

Zema reported today having a total of R$178.8 million in financial investments, companies and properties. When he was re-elected governor of Minas Gerais, in 2022, the now presidential candidate declared that he had R$129.7 million in assets.

The percentage increase in the period is 38%. Accumulated inflation, according to the IPCA (Broad National Consumer Price Index), was 19%.

In the list of the presidential candidate's assets, the largest share comes from the former governor's stake in a family holding, which totals R$94 million. Next, there is another R$56.2 million related to an investment fund. The miner also has R$4.3 million invested in fixed income investments.

In 2022, his 27.14% share in the company Ricardo Zema Participações corresponded to the largest chunk, equivalent to R$72.3 million.

Ricardo is the name of the former governor's father and president of the Zema Group, which brings together the family's companies, which include a retail chain and a financial institution. The Novo candidate is a businessman and graduated in administration from FGV (Fundação Getúlio Vargas).

The family business began in Araxá (MG), where the former governor was born.

In total, the politician's assets have grown by 150% since 2018, when he ran for state government for the first time and declared that he owned R$69.7 million in properties.

Accumulated inflation for the period was 51%, according to the IPCA, calculated by IBGE (Brazilian Institute of Geography and Statistics).

Some assets declared by the candidate remain at the same value throughout the period, such as a residential property.

Zema's office was contacted, but did not respond until the report was published.

The vice-president on Zema's ticket is senator Eduardo Girão (CE), who declared total assets of R$34.1 million. Among his assets is a "foreign bank deposit", worth US$ 1.8 million (R$ 10 million).

In addition to the Novo presidential candidate, until Thursday night (6) the only candidate for president who presented the registration of the candidacy and, consequently, the declaration of assets was Samara (UP). His assets total R$33,000 and consist of a car and a savings account.

The deadline for registering candidacies at the Electoral Court ends on August 15th.
