Hail and wind tear apart houses in Canoas (RS) The Civil Defense of Eldorado do Sul, in the Metropolitan Region of Porto Alegre, updated the number of homeless people to approximately 600 this Sunday (12). The municipality was hit by a storm with hail and winds of 45 km/h in the early hours of Saturday (11). At least 130 houses were roofed and 30 trees fell during the storm. A shelter was set up by the municipality, but did not need to be activated. Electricity supply has been restored to around 50% in the region. The lack of electricity directly affects the water supply in homes that depend on artesian wells. To alleviate the situation, three water trucks were allocated by the civil defenses of Eldorado do Sul and Porto Alegre to distribute drinking water this Sunday. A service base operates in the neighborhood's city hall, where donations are being delivered to residents. Trucks with tiles sent by the state arrived in the municipality, and teams are working on the streets to distribute them. The Civil Defense's goal is to deliver the materials to almost all of the affected families this Sunday. According to the city of Eldorado do Sul, the storm hit the region around 6 am and caused roofing, fallen trees, blocked roads and a lack of electricity. According to Climatempo Meteorologia, it rained 23 millimeters in 24 hours. In Canoas, also in the Metropolitan Region, at least six houses were damaged by the storm. See the video above.
