Giant cloud arrives in Porto Alegre as the extratropical cyclone advances. André Ávila/Agência RBS Rio Grande do Sul faces a drastic change in the weather starting this Thursday (16), with the arrival of severe storms, intense winds, hail and the risk of a tornado. The instability, influenced by the El Niño phenomenon, is expected to last until next Monday (20). Meteorologists classify the situation as extremely dangerous, with a risk of wind gusts of 90 km/h. The National Institute of Meteorology (Inmet) published storm alerts for the state, pointing out winds that could reach 100 km/h and rainfall of up to 100 millimeters per day between Friday (17) and Saturday (18). ? Access the g1 RS channel on WhatsApp Climatempo Meteorologia indicates that the change in weather begins on the afternoon and evening of Thursday (16), initially reaching the West, the Campaign and the Central Region. The advancement of a low pressure area and the intense transport of moisture favor rain showers. Before instability, temperatures rise quickly, causing a feeling of heat.

Until Wednesday (15), the weather remains firm across the state. A mass of dry air guarantees sunny days and a gradual rise in temperatures in the afternoon, mainly in the West, Missões, Campanha, Central Region and Valleys. On Friday, the combination of heat, humidity and strong wind shear creates an environment highly conducive to severe thunderstorms. The rain advances towards the Valleys, Metropolitan Region of Porto Alegre, North and East of the state. In the Santa Maria region, the north wind can reach gusts of 85 km/h persistently. Inmet advises the population not to take shelter under trees and to turn off electrical devices during storms, due to the risk of electrical discharges and falling branches. In case of emergency, Civil Defense (199) and the Fire Department (193) must be called. VIDEOS: Everything about RS
