Car hits a pole, breaks into a house and causes a power outage in Canoas; woman is injured A runaway car tore off a concrete pole and hit a house in Canoas, in the Porto Alegre Metropolitan Region, in the early hours of this Thursday (30). The accident, which happened on Avenida Farroupilha, close to Rua Jackson de Figueiredo, in the Nossa Senhora das Graças neighborhood, left a passenger in the car injured and caused a power outage in the region. The driver and two other occupants of the vehicle fled the scene. According to the Military Brigade, the vehicle was traveling down the avenue when it lost control on a curve at around 3:10 am. With the impact, the pole was ripped off. The car spun onto the road, broke the fence of the residence and hit the window and awning of the property. A woman was injured and was treated by the Mobile Emergency Care Service (Samu). The resident of the house, William Oliveira Machado, was in the room affected at the time of the crash. "When the glass exploded, that's when I saw the car. And then I screamed 'my God' and went there, when I saw the people", he says. The interior of the residence was left with broken glass scattered around. "A real, terrible scare. I was drinking coffee, I had given coffee to my son. It was around three o'clock, three past ten, more or less, when there was a bang. First it was a light knock, I even thought it was the cats, and then the explosion", says the baker. Part of the region was left without electricity. Teams from the RGE concessionaire carried out repairs to the network and restored electricity in a large part of the Nossa Senhora das Graças and Niterói neighborhoods. However, the blocks closest to the intersection with Rua Jackson de Figueiredo, where the area was isolated, were still without power at 8am. The company expects that repairing the pole and removing the wiring will take the entire day.
