The pair then fled on foot and abandoned a local motorcycle. During the chase, one of the teenagers allegedly fired new shots at the police, who returned fire. One of the teenagers entered a field with little visibility and managed to escape. The other continued running down the street, but when he realized he would be caught, he threw the gun on the ground and surrendered.

During the approach, the police seized from the teenager a 9 mm caliber pistol, with the serial number removed, as well as a magazine with three rounds of ammunition. According to the PM, the teenager reported that he was accompanied by another teenager. He further stated that the two were waiting for a woman to pass by and intended to approach her in a possible robbery. The police returned to the area where the second teenager had fled and found another firearm, a .40 caliber pistol, with a magazine containing six rounds. At the place where the first shots were fired, the team collected 15 rounds of ammunition, five of which were .40 caliber and ten were 9 mm. Searches were carried out in the region, but the second teenager was not located. The Guardianship Council was called to monitor the presentation of the teenager apprehended at the Carutapera Police Station.
