Operation arrests suspect of deceiving more than 100 victims with false vehicle fees in RN Disclosure / PCRN A 35-year-old man was preventively arrested this Thursday (16) in Mossoró, Rio Grande do Norte, suspected of scamming more than 100 people with the promise of false discounts on vehicle fees. The damage caused to the victims is estimated at approximately R$200,000. The arrest is part of Operation "False Discount", triggered by a joint action between the Civil Police of Rio Grande do Norte and the Civil Police of the State of Ceará. According to investigations, the crimes had been occurring in the municipality of Assu since 2025. ? He induced victims to make bank transfers by offering a false discount on the payment of fees from the State Department of Transit of Rio Grande do Norte (Detran-RN) for issuing documents and regularizing vehicles. The amounts transferred, however, were appropriated by the investigator. After being located and arrested, the man was taken to a police unit and then sent to the prison system, where he remains at the disposal of the courts. The Civil Police reinforces that the population can assist in investigations by passing on information anonymously and securely through Hotline Denúncia, on phone 181.
