The driver confessed that he had loaded the gunpowder in Santo Antônio do Monte, in the Center-West, and that the final destination would be the Northeast region of the country. The PRF found that he did not have the Traffic Guide issued by the Brazilian Army (a mandatory document for transporting this type of material), nor did he present the invoices for the cargo. Clandestine material Army technicians were called to assess the incident. After inspection, the military concluded that the gunpowder was completely clandestine, with no identification of the manufacturer or information on the date of manufacture and expiration date. According to the technical assessment, the absence of this data made it impossible to attest to the stability conditions of the compound, which increased the risk of an accidental explosion during the journey. The driver was charged with illegal transportation of an explosive substance and taken to the Civil Police Station in Bom Despacho. The truck and a cell phone were seized. The Civil Police reported that they will continue investigations to determine the exact origin of the cargo and identify other possible parties involved in the scheme.
