Police seize 28 wild birds kept in irregular captivity in Greater São Luís Disclosure/Civil Police The Civil Police seized, on the morning of this Thursday (16), 28 wild birds of different species and 32 cages used to keep them in captivity irregularly in the Alto da Base neighborhood, in Raposa, in the Metropolitan Region of São Luís. ? Click here and subscribe to the g1 Maranhão channel on WhatsApp The operation was carried out at the request of the Maranhão Public Ministry (MP-MA) and coordinated by the Raposa Special Police Station, responsible for investigating the case. The animals were found in a residence. At the site, there were species of Brazilian fauna, such as curió, thrush, papa-capim, pipira, xexéu, caboclinho, mustache and rosadinha, kept without authorization from the competent environmental bodies. According to the Civil Police, a man identified as responsible for guarding the birds was taken to the police station. He was charged with the crime provided for in article 29 of Law No. 9,605/1998 (Environmental Crimes Law). In addition to the birds, the 32 cages used to keep them in captivity were also seized. The animals were sent to environmental agencies for evaluation and rehabilitation and, when possible, they will be reintegrated into their natural habitat.
