PL launches Alfredo Gaspar as a candidate for the Senate for Alagoas The Liberal Party (PL) confirmed Alfredo Gaspar's candidacy for the Senate for Alagoas. The decision was taken during a convention held this Tuesday (04), in Maceió. Alfredo Gaspar is a lawyer and federal deputy for Alagoas. Former Attorney General of Justice and former Secretary of Public Security, he will contest his third election and run for the Senate for the first time. "I want to do more for Brazil and Alagoas. The Senate needs the presence of those who have the courage to fight against the system and in defense of the people of Alagoas and Brazil. What is happening in the country is unacceptable," said Alfredo during the convention. ??Convention calendar Conventions are events in which party members meet to choose candidates in elections. The deadline is August 5th. Next, the names must be registered with the Superior Court (TSE) by August 15th. The election campaign officially begins the following day. In this year's elections, on October 4th, Brazilians will vote for: president; governor; Senate (two seats per state); federal deputy; state deputy; Alfredo Gaspar's trajectory Alfredo Gaspar is a candidate for the Senate for Alagoas in the 2026 elections. Before entering politics, he worked for 24 years at the Public Ministry of Alagoas, where he worked as a prosecutor and rose to the position of Attorney General of Justice. He also held positions in the state government. He was Secretary of Social Defense and, later, Secretary of Public Security of Alagoas, with activities focused on combating organized crime and violence. The first election contested by Gaspar was in 2020, when he ran for Mayor of Maceió for the MDB. He reached the second round, but was defeated by JHC. In 2022, affiliated with União Brasil, he was elected federal deputy. In the Chamber, he began to focus his work on issues related to public security, the fight against corruption and the tightening of criminal laws. In 2026, Gaspar left União Brasil, joined the PL and assumed state command of the party. He also began to respond to a process at the Chamber's Ethics Council for alleged breach of parliamentary decorum. The case remains in progress. His candidacy for the Senate will be his third electoral contest and his first for the position.
