The decision was taken during a convention held this Sunday (3), in São Paulo. Cesar Pontes has a degree in history and joined the PCO in 2016. After running for mayor of Porto Alegre in 2024, he will run for Palácio Piratini for the first time. ? We have no intention of acquiring a large number of votes. We are a Marxist party. Our function is to propagate our program: placing the population as protagonists of public administration", states Pontes. The PCO will contest the elections in Rio Grande do Sul with a pure ticket. In other words, it will not form coalitions with other parties.

Convention calendar Conventions are events in which party members meet to choose candidates in elections. The deadline is August 5th. Next, the names must be registered with the Superior Court (TSE) by August 15th. The election campaign officially begins the following day. In this year's elections, on October 4th, Brazilians will vote for: president; governor; Senate (two seats per state); federal deputy; state deputy. Cesar Pontes's career Cesar Augusto Pontes (Porto Alegre, 1957) graduated in history from the Pontifical Catholic University of Rio Grande do Sul (Pucrs). Son of a primary school teacher and a civil servant, he received his education in public schools. Already retired, he joined the PCO in 2016 and participated in mobilizations against the impeachment of then president Dilma Rousseff (PT) and against the Michel Temer government (MDB). In 2022, he tried to be a candidate for the government of RS, but was declared unfit by the Regional Electoral Court (TRE) due to the party's rejection.
