Passengers still face delays after bus seizure in Rio Branco The disruptions in public transport in Rio Branco still affect those who depend on buses to get to work and fulfill commitments. This Friday morning (3), a bus on the Tancredo Neves line presented mechanical problems in the upper part of the capital, and passengers had to wait while the vehicle remained stopped. Among the users was the cook Maria de Nazaré Fernandes, who criticized the delay faced by passengers in recent days and demanded improvements in the service. (See video above) ? "We want the population's problem with public transport to be resolved. There are people here who are even sleeping inside the bus waiting. Everyone has a bill to pay, everyone has a commitment. We want a solution. Come on, authorities, wake up. You who talk nice, get moving. If you were worried about the population, you would have already solved the public transport problem", he stated. ?Context: The disturbances have intensified since last Tuesday (30), when the Acre Court complied with a precatory letter issued by the Federal District Court and seized part of the Ricco Transportes e Turismo fleet. In total, the court decision determines the repossession of 50 buses due to the company's debt of almost R$3 million. "Not everyone will have the money to pay for the taxi fare, because there are people who leave with the R$ 3.50 for the ticket counted. So what are you going to do? Unfortunately, we are left with nothing", he added. ? This is not the first time that Ricco buses have been the target of legal action. In July 2024, the São Paulo Court ordered the search and seizure of 16 company vehicles after late payment of bus financing installments. With the reduction of the fleet in circulation, passengers began to face long queues at stops, crowded buses and increased waiting times. Due to students' travel difficulties, the Federal University of Acre (Ufac) suspended classes for undergraduate courses on Wednesday (1st) and Thursday, and the measure was extended until Saturday (4). Bus taxis are used by passengers who depend on public transport in Rio Branco Richard Lauriano/Rede Amazônica To try to minimize impacts, Rio Branco City Hall authorized, on a temporary basis, the operation of the taxi taxi service. The modality began operating on Wednesday (1st) and provides transport between neighborhoods and the Center for R$5 per passenger, while the fleet reduction lasts. Despite the measure, passengers still report difficulties. In addition to the higher cost than the bus fare, R$3.50, users say they are not always able to use the service and that it takes time to reach their destination. ?Crisis in public transport The crisis in transport occurs on the eve of the termination of the emergency contract between Rio Branco City Hall and Ricco Transportes e Turismo, scheduled for this Saturday (4). This Thursday (2), the city hall reported that it is trying to negotiate an extension of the contract for up to 60 days with Ricco to guarantee the transition until JTP Transportes, Serviços, Gestão e Recursos Humanos LTDA takes over the operation of public transport in the capital. The municipal administration reported that it seeks to ensure continuity of service during the change of company. The city hall's position, however, differs from the company's position. To Rede Amazônica Acre, the co-owner of Ricco Transportes, Bruna Dias, informed that the company does not intend to renew the contract with the municipality. According to her, Ricco only intends to receive a supposed debt that it claims to have from the city hall and settle its labor obligations before ceasing its activities. VIDEOS: g1
