The offensive focused on men investigated for persecuting, threatening or failing to comply with measures related to the protection of ex-partners. The operation should continue until December. Since the beginning of the Operation, in June, more than 350 attackers have been arrested in Rio Grande do Sul, according to the Civil Police. The authorities' expectation is to expand prevention and protection actions for victims in the coming months. Violence against women: how to ask for help Warning signs In Porto Alegre, police officers from the 1st and 2nd Police Station Specialized in Women's Assistance served two preventive arrest warrants against those being investigated for threats and persecution of ex-partners. In one of the cases, a 26-year-old man was arrested at the residence where he lived, in the South Zone of the capital. According to the Civil Police, he is suspected of repeatedly stalking his ex-partner and also of threatening to publish intimate images of the victim on the internet. According to the investigation, the situation would have caused harm to the woman's professional life. For the director of the Women's Protection and Assistance Division (Dipam), delegate Waleska Alvarenga, stalking behaviors are considered warning signs and may indicate a risk of escalating violence. "It's a man who is unhappy, he doesn't accept autonomy and he doesn't accept the woman's decision", explains Alvarenga. In addition to the arrests, the operation carried out 18 search and seizure warrants aimed at removing firearms from those under investigation. According to the Civil Police, the measure also includes regularized weapons registered in the name of the suspects. The delegate explained that the Maria da Penha Law provides for restrictions on attackers' access to firearms due to the potential increase in risk in situations of domestic violence.
