Public Defender's Office opens registrations for paternity recognition effort in SP The Public Defender's Office of the State of São Paulo continues to open registrations for the 2026 edition of the national effort "Meu Pai Tem Nome", which offers free service for recognition and investigation of paternity, in addition to the regularization of civil records. Interested parties can register until July 30th on the São Paulo Public Defender’s Office website. The collective effort will be held on August 1st. Check out more information below. ? In the cities of Presidente Prudente, Bauru and Marília, more than 300 children were registered without their father's name in 2026. Records without their father's name Data from the Civil Registry Transparency Portal show that hundreds of children were registered without their father's name in cities in the west and center-west of São Paulo. In Presidente Prudente, of the 2,886 births registered in 2025, 113 certificates were issued without identifying paternity. In 2026, to date, there have been 144 births, of which 66 were registered as an absent father. In Bauru, there were 273 certificates without the father's name among 4,192 births registered in 2025. In 2026, partial data indicate 154 records of an absent father in 222 births. In Marília, the Civil Registry recorded 167 certificates without the father's name among 2,891 births in 2025. This year, so far, there have been 96 records of an absent father in 170 births. How to participate in the national task force To participate in the national campaign My Father Has a Name, simply access the institution's page and click on the assistant icon, located in the bottom corner of the screen. The collective effort will be held on D-Day, on August 1st, in more than 60 stations distributed across the state of São Paulo, including units of the Public Defender's Office and partner institutions. According to the Public Defender's Office, the campaign aims to expand access to citizenship, guarantee fundamental rights and strengthen family ties through the regularization of civil registration. In addition to the Defender's Office, the São Paulo Institute of Social Medicine and Criminology (Imesc) and the Association of Natural Persons Registrars of the State of São Paulo (Arpen-SP) participate in the action. The Faculty of Pharmaceutical Sciences of the Universidade Estadual Paulista (Unesp), the state departments of Justice and Health, in addition to partner entities, are also part of the action.
