The Institute of National Historical and Artistic Heritage (Iphan) and the Fire Department began this Tuesday (21) a group of technical inspections on historic mansions in the Campina neighborhood, in Belém. The action aims to evaluate the structural conditions of listed properties, identify risks to the safety of the population and guide measures to preserve the capital's historical heritage. The inspection takes place two weeks after the collapse of part of the facade of a mansion where a store and warehouse operated, in Travessa Treze de Maio. The property remains closed, as does part of the shopping center area affected by the accident. According to Iphan, the operation brings together teams from the institute, municipal and state civil defense, the Fire Department, the Architecture and Urban Planning Council (CAU), the Regional Engineering and Agronomy Council (Crea) and municipal departments. Inspections evaluate facades, roofs and internal structures of properties, in addition to building security systems. This Tuesday's inspections mark the beginning of a task force that should continue over the next few weeks. A preliminary survey identified 42 mansions in Campina that need to undergo detailed inspections. At the end of each stage, the bodies involved will prepare technical reports that may result in notifications to owners, isolation of areas or even partial or total closures, if risks are identified. According to the technical coordinator of Iphan in Pará, Paulo Henrique Guimarães, the intention is to reduce the risks for those who travel daily through the region. "Businesses occupy the ground floor areas and, above, use them as a warehouse. The intention is for us to reduce as much as possible the risks we identify for those who frequent businesses and the Campina area", he stated. The actions continue the work started in 2025, when inspections focused on properties with individual listing, such as the churches of Carmo and Sant'Ana and the Solar do Instituto Histórico e Geográfico do Pará (IHGP). This year, the focus became the group of listed buildings in Campina, one of the areas with the highest circulation of people in the historic center of Belém.
