The accident happened at km 147 of the highway, on Avenida Presidente Kennedy, near the Jóquei neighborhood. With the impact of the crash, Lucas' motorcycle was thrown against another car that was traveling along the road and was unable to avoid the collision. The driver of the car was arrested for being drunk at the wheel. According to the Civil Police, he also had his National Driving License (CNH) suspended. Witnesses reported that there were bottles of alcoholic beverages inside the vehicle. The suspect suffered minor injuries, was taken to Ferreira Machado Hospital and, after receiving medical attention, remained in custody at the disposal of the Court. Lucas' death was one of the fatal accidents recorded on the region's highways over the weekend. Highways recorded more accidents In the early hours of Sunday (5), another accident on BR-356, between Campos and Itaperuna, killed a father and his 11-year-old daughter. The two were returning to Italva after spending the day in a shopping mall when the car they were in was involved in a collision. The girl was rescued, but died at Ferreira Machado Hospital. The father died at the scene. A third driver involved in the accident also died and his body was charred. Also on Sunday, a motorcyclist died in an accident at km 50 of BR-101, in Campos. The victim's body was sent to the Legal Medical Institute (IML). The Federal Highway Police and the Civil Police investigate the circumstances of the accidents and reinforce the importance of respecting traffic laws to reduce the number of deaths on the region's highways.
