The Civil Police are investigating the complaint that the stepmother forced the child to ingest the substance. She remains hospitalized in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) of the National Institute of Traumatology and Orthopedics (Into-AC). The case is under judicial secrecy. According to her, when she arrived at the hospital, the medical team confirmed that the girl ingested caustic soda and advised her to avoid questions about the case so as not to cause suffering to the child during recovery. "When I came in, the doctor said she had a surprise for her. When she looked at me, she recognized me. She started crying and so did I. I just said that I was on her side, that she had a mother and that I wasn't going to abandon her", he said. According to the woman, the doctors informed that the girl suffered serious internal injuries and must undergo surgery and advised the family to preserve the patient's emotional state. "They said that she is very hurt inside. They told me to take it slow and help her forget this moment. When she is better, I will talk to her. Now I just want her to get better", he reported. History of violence Regarding her relationship with the child's father, she said that her ex-partner had prevented contact between the two after the end of the marriage. The woman lived with the girl's father for around six years and claims that she was the victim of physical attacks and constant threats. The couple had two children. She said she decided to flee because she feared for her life and told her then partner that she would travel to visit her mother. The intention, according to her, was to take her two children, but the man only allowed the youngest to go with her. "My situation with him was very difficult. He beat me a lot. I prepared my escape to Boca do Acre because he said I would only leave if he killed me. My intention was to take my two children, but he didn't let me take her," he reported. After leaving the house, the mother tried several times to regain custody of her daughter and even went to the Child Protection Council. I had set fire to the things I had given her. "He said I would stay with her if I came back with him. If I didn't come back, he wouldn't let me see my daughter," he said. The woman said that, after rebuilding her life with her current husband, she only received information from family members that her daughter was fine. She states that she only became aware of the seriousness of the situation after her sister informed her about the girl's hospitalization. "When my sister called me telling me what had happened, my husband and I didn't think twice. I left everything behind because of her. I'm only going to leave here when I get custody of my daughter," he commented.
