Furthermore, an amendment approved during the processing allows the delivery person access to the resident's residence in horizontal condominiums. Failure to comply with the law will subject the offender to penalties. In the first occurrence, a warning will be applied. In the event of a repeat offense, a fine will be charged, the amount of which will still be regulated by the city hall. Residential and commercial condominiums will have a period of up to 180 days, counting from the publication of the law, to adapt the facilities. Locations must provide an appropriate and safe space for receiving and temporarily depositing orders, guaranteeing decent waiting conditions for workers. Buildings will also be able to post notices visible to residents about the new rule. Compliance with the measure will be accompanied by information campaigns organized by application platforms and the Executive Branch. The project was authored by councilors Leonardo da Costa (PT) and Paulo Roberto Machado Oliveira (PDT). The justification cites an episode of conflict recorded in the municipality. On April 21, a delivery man was disrespected after refusing to go up to a building. In protest, a group tore down the gate of the condominium in question. The document points out that professionals are often constrained or coerced into climbing buildings, facing safety risks and loss of working time. The objective of the law is to standardize procedures and ensure that the responsibility for delivery does not fall on the worker beyond their role. When defending the matter, councilor Leonardo da Costa highlighted the long journeys, adverse weather conditions and traffic risks faced by the category. "We are talking about respect for workers. Delivery drivers provide a fundamental service for the city and cannot be treated as private employees of customers. Guaranteeing their safety and dignity is a responsibility of the public authorities", stated the parliamentarian. The Sindimoto union delegate and representative of the delivery drivers, Digão, defended the measure. "Here in the region, there are thousands of delivery people who make the city go around. What we want is a minimum of respect for our category. There is still a lot to be done, but the approval of this project is an achievement for us", he declared. VIDEOS: Everything about RS
