The bathing bulletin monitors 33 points, including beaches, lakes and rivers, throughout the year - 18 fewer than in the summer. The monitored beaches are in Natal, Parnamirim, Nísia Floresta and Extremoz. The analysis is based on the amount of thermotolerant coliforms - also called fecal coliforms - present in the water, following the criteria established by a resolution from the National Environmental Council (Conama), which defines the parameters for classifying water suitable and unsuitable for bathing. Monitoring is part of the Água Azul Program, which is developed in partnership between Idema, the Federal Institute of Education, Science and Technology of Rio Grande do Norte (IFRN) and the Foundation for Support to Education and Technological Development of RN (Funcern).
