"We start by listening to the victim, the witnesses and starting investigations. In her case, she reported that she was attacked. A police investigation was opened and the case will be investigated," he said. According to Érica, the relationship was marked by episodes of betrayal, control and psychological violence, but it took years to break the bond. The signs of an abusive relationship appeared early in the relationship, but she was unable to see them. "He gave me all the signs from the beginning, but I was very naive. I had no guidance. I lived in this cycle for many years. At the same time as I wanted to free myself, I couldn't. It's very complicated," he said. The discussion prior to the assault would have started over financial issues related to the child's expenses. Érica also said that her ex got excited and, without her being able to react, began to choke her. "When I realized, he was already on my neck. He dragged me from the living room to the bedroom, hanging me. I couldn't feel my feet on the floor anymore. He suspended me, I tried to struggle, but I couldn't. Everything went dark, I passed out. When I woke up, I was already lying on the floor, with him on top of me, cursing me", he described. According to her, when she regained consciousness, she was able to call for her son. The 9-year-old boy ran to her when he heard the cries for help. "I screamed: 'My son, help! Your father is going to kill me'. He came running. He was the one who saved my life. After that I managed to call the police and said: 'I'm going to die, he's going to kill me'. It was at that moment that I managed to ask for help", he reported. What is femicide?
