The video was recorded by fisherman Ricardo Anderson Carlos, known as Kako, who lives on the banks of the Jacaré-Guaçu River. He told g1 that he had never witnessed a similar scene and described the moment as unforgettable. "It was such a spectacular moment in my life. I've never seen anything like that. I've never seen a jaguar crossing like that. It was a very incredible feeling." According to the fisherman, the stretch where the jaguar family crossed is between 300 and 400 meters wide. According to the biologist and director of Biodiversity at Fundação Florestal, Andréa Pires, crossing rivers is part of the puma's natural behavior. Puma is caught walking through the Cavalcante environmental reserve, Goiás Disclosure/Haroldo Palo Júnior The species usually uses waterways to move in search of food and can travel great distances. "They have this habit and are good swimmers. It's an advantage they have. So, it's their practice to use the river as a channel to feed themselves", he explains. The expert emphasizes that the biggest risk, in these cases, is not the animal's behavior, but the reaction of people to an unexpected encounter. "What worries, for example, are people who may be in the river and don't know how to deal with this sighting, going after the jaguar or getting scared, which ends up making this encounter worse", he concludes.
