Vitor Rafael Vieira Fernandes' family suspects that there was a medical error. The Municipal Health Department denies the accusations. According to the Civil Police, a thanatoscopic examination was carried out and other expert examinations were requested to clarify the cause of death. The investigation awaits the conclusion of the reports. According to the family, Vitor went to the hospital complaining of a headache and died after receiving medication. The Municipal Health Department states that the teenager improved after initial care, but suddenly worsened hours later and that there was no error on the part of the medical team. Vitor died in the early hours of Sunday (21), around 3am. The body was buried on Tuesday (23), after the family filed a police report and arranged for an autopsy to be carried out. According to her, the family tried to obtain information from the responsible doctor about the cause of death and sought to perform an autopsy. The examination ended up being requested after the police report was registered. "The doctor didn't say anything. The only thing they said was that it would have been a heart attack, but that doesn't make sense," he said. In a statement, the management of the Dr. Pedro Granjeiro Xavier Municipal Hospital and the Municipal Health Department denied the accusations of medical error. According to the unit, Vitor was admitted to the hospital at 9:52 pm complaining of a headache and nausea. At 10pm, he received medication for his condition and, at 11pm, his symptoms improved and remained under observation. According to the note, around 3am, the teenager developed a sudden and unexpected worsening and was taken to the emergency room. The hospital states that the service followed technical criteria and that there was no error in the medication or in the conduct of the medical team. Regarding the medical record, the Department of Health reported that the document was not denied to the family. According to management, it was not delivered immediately because formal identification of those responsible was required and was made available the following day to the teenager's brother. Regarding the autopsy, the Secretariat informed that, in cases of sudden death without a defined cause, referral to the Legal Medical Institute (IML) depends on police records and that this guidance was passed on to the family. Relatives, however, claim that they did not receive this information. The hospital management also expressed regret over the teenager's death, informed that it is available to the authorities to provide clarification and repudiated what it classified as "distortions" about the case.
